Technical Sales Engineer

Location: Fowlmere, Cambridgeshire
Salary: Competitive, DOE
Contract: Full time, Permanent
Hours: Monday – Friday 08.30AM – 5.00PM

At Ion Science we develop, manufacture and distribute word leading gas detectors and sensors in a fun, high energy environment. Our sensors sales are currently growing at over 40% per a year and we need a likeminded sales support engineer to help continue this growth in to the future.

Your primary role will be supporting our global sensor sales team with word class pre and post sale technical support. To achieve this, you will be working with a cross-functional team of scientists, engineers and marketers proactively diving in to technical topics to become an expert in our sensors. You will use this expertise to advise our customers verbally, in email and create marketing content and sales tools.

You’ll also act as the bridge between our users and our product teams to ensure we’re acting on their feedback and continually driving the development of our products. Previous experience in technical support roles or problem solving in technical environments would be highly beneficial. Sales training if needed will be provided.

About the role – Technical Sales Engineer:

The Role will report to the Business Unit Manager and will involve the following:

  • Act as the first point of contact for technical support during sensor evaluation and product development
  • Reduce customers product development cycles and maximising their ROI
  • Provide post sales technical support for existing customers
  • Influence product development by working closely with our product, marketing, and sales teams to collect and digest user feedback
  • Contribute to our support documents to ensure they’re clear and accurate, and research and write new content to fill any gaps
  • Keep abreast of competitor offerings
  • Be a customer champion, ensuring their views are represented in the company
  • Providing product education and advice – internally and externally
  • Attending trade exhibitions, conferences and meetings
  • Support sales to ensure targets are met

Technical Sales Engineer – The Person:

This is a hands-on role and the person appointed will: –

  • Have user empathy, and an aptitude for using this to foster user relationships that resonate and engage
  • Have a technical predisposition, and the desire to learn
  • Basic understanding of electronics
  • Understand the pressures of achieving sales target
  • Be goal driven
  • Be able to convey complex technical topics with simplicity, both verbally and in written Form
  • Be capable of working independently as well as in a team
  • Be proactive in problem solving
  • Be self-motivated
  • Have a methodical and systematic approach
  • Be able to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical people
  • Have pride in their work and a job well done

Technical Qualifications:

  • Science or engineering degree or HND + experience
